Chimney sweep / Technician
About the role
The role of a modern-day chimney sweep has evolved for the traditional depiction of a sooty sweep walking down the road with cane rods slung over shoulder. Today’s fleet of qualified sweeps actually take on more of a technician role as opposed to one of cleaning.
We are looking for a candidate ready to start a rewarding career as a Chimney Sweep/Technician. As a member of our team, you will cover an hour’s radius from our base in L’isle Jourdain 86150, France, serving our valued customers with excellence and professionalism.
You will be responsible for navigating to appointments at customer’s houses and managing your time to stay on schedule. You will need to be able to identify any faults that are visible with the chimney systems you will be servicing in line with French regulations before and during the cleaning process. You will be responsible for providing documented certification to our customers and providing appropriate advice to allow users to more efficiently use their heating systems and get the most out of their fuel.
Once qualified, a Chimney Sweep/Technician is able to:
- Be conversant with the complexities of solid fuel heating.
- Memorise and understand the wealth of building regulations in France and be able to apply them practically.
- Diagnose and solve intricate problems within solid fuel heating systems.
- Operate an arsenal of specific tools to assist it the maintenance of Chimney Systems.
- Work independently and retain a professional demeanour whilst remaining friendly and approachable

Requirements
- Language Skills: Bilingual in French and English.
- Driving License: Permis B (or other valid Drivers license in France).
- Course requirements: You must be eligible to take the necessary courses to acquire the appropriate qualifications for this role (See below).
- Professional Presentation: Ability to present oneself professionally at all times.

Please note that this position will commence in 2025. As much as we would love to hire a new sweep for the 2024 sweeping season, the French Chimney Sweeping courses are oversubscribed and are completely full for 2024.
The requirements to undertake the necessary French Qualifications for this role are as follows:
- High level or complete fluency in French, sufficient to learn and understand technical vocabulary.
- Have completed at least one year in Lycée or have a certification of at least level 3 (equivalent to CAP, BEP or other equivalencies).
